On 8 October 2025, the University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM) delegation, led by Professor Ehsan Mesbahi, Academic Provost of UoSM, paid a courtesy visit to Johor Corporation (JCorp). The team was warmly welcomed by Datuk Syed Mohamed Ibrahim, President and Chief Executive of JCorp, alongside members of the JCorp leadership team.

The meeting served as a meaningful platform for both institutions to explore opportunities for strategic collaboration in education, research, and industry partnerships. Discussions revolved around areas of mutual interest, including artificial intelligence (AI), digital systems, healthcare innovation, and advanced engineering, all key sectors that are shaping Malaysia’s innovation-driven future.

Professor Ehsan shared UoSM’s commitment to nurturing high-impact talent through world-class education and applied research, while Datuk Syed Mohamed expressed JCorp’s interest in cultivating stronger links with universities to enhance Johor’s innovation capacity. Both parties emphasised the importance of bridging academic expertise with real-world industry needs, ensuring that graduates are equipped with future-ready skills to thrive in an increasingly digital economy.

The dialogue also highlighted the potential to establish integrated innovation hubs and applied learning environments that bring together universities, industries, and communities in a dynamic ecosystem of collaboration. These initiatives would create valuable opportunities for students and researchers to engage in hands-on projects, co-develop solutions with industry partners, and contribute to sustainable economic growth in Johor.

Guided by a shared vision to empower talent and drive knowledge-based development, UoSM and JCorp look forward to advancing discussions on joint programmes and initiatives that align with Johor’s long-term innovation strategy.

Through this collaboration, UoSM aims to strengthen its role as a key academic partner in Johor’s transformation into a regional nexus for talent, technology, and enterprise, reinforcing the University’s mission to make a meaningful impact on both local and global communities.
