Achievements

When Jeremy Weber first stepped into the University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM) for his foundation studies, he never imagined the journey would take him across continents and eventually lead him to one of the world’s most renowned automotive companies. Today, Jeremy is a Senior Engineer at Toyota UK, playing a key role in the production of hybrid Corolla cars at the company’s manufacturing plant in Derby.

Jeremy began his higher education at UoSM, where he completed his foundation programme before transferring to the University of Southampton in the UK in 2018. He graduated in 2020 with a degree in engineering, although his graduation ceremony was postponed to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reflecting on his time in Malaysia, Jeremy credits UoSM with shaping his academic and personal growth:

“I would not be who I am today without my time in Malaysia. For sure, I would not be who I am today.”

The strong sense of community and the support from lecturers and peers left a lasting impression on him, creating memories that continue to inspire his career journey.

Right after graduation in 2020, Jeremy joined Toyota’s Graduate Engineering Programme, a two-year placement designed to equip fresh graduates with real-world industry experience. His dedication and hard work soon paid off:

  • 2020 – Joined Toyota UK as a Graduate Engineer
  • 2022 – Promoted to Engineer
  • 2024 – Promoted to Senior Engineer

Now, nearly five years into his career with Toyota, Jeremy is looking ahead to his next milestone: moving into engineering management.

“The programme was two years long and then I got promoted to engineer. After another couple of years, I became a senior engineer. My next steps now are to look towards engineering management.”

Even after establishing his career in the UK, Jeremy remains closely connected to UoSM. He fondly recalls his lecturers and is delighted to know many are still teaching at the university. For him, UoSM was more than just a place to study, it was a community that nurtured his ambition and helped him grow.

Jeremy’s journey is a testament to how determination, coupled with the right education and opportunities, can lead to remarkable success. For current and prospective UoSM students, his story shows that the foundation laid in Malaysia can open doors to global careers.
