We are thrilled to celebrate a remarkable achievement by members of the University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM) community. Ir. Dr. Ahmad Syahrin Idris, Dr. Azam Ahmad Bakir, Dr. Grace Chai, and Dr. Heng Wei Wei, representing the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the School of Mechanical Engineering, have secured the prestigious Royal Academy of Engineering’s Leaders in Innovation Fellowship (LIF) - Global. This accomplishment highlights their exceptional expertise and innovative vision as part of the esteemed team, Soton4Health.
The LIF Global fellowship is the flagship programme of the Royal Academy of Engineering, designed to empower innovators with technology prototypes and equip them with an entrepreneurial mindset. The UoSM team was selected as one of the top innovators from nine countries, a recognition of their excellence, the potential of their innovation, and their outstanding personal qualities.
This prestigious fellowship not only honors the team’s accomplishments but also provides a robust platform to enhance their contributions to engineering and technology. The programme offers unparalleled opportunities for skill refinement in entrepreneurship and commercialisation, effectively bridging the gap between academic research and practical applications. Through mentorship, vital resources, and extensive networking opportunities, the fellowship empowers the team to transform their groundbreaking ideas into impactful solutions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being.
The success of this team is a testament to their dedication, collaborative spirit, and the innovative culture fostered at UoSM. With the support of the Royal Academy of Engineering, we are confident in their ability to deliver transformative technologies addressing critical challenges in the health-tech sector.
Looking ahead, the team will participate in intensive in-country training and mentoring sessions, culminating in a UK residential programme in July 2025. This experience will provide access to grants, global networks, and partnerships within the extensive LIF community of over 1,400 innovators. As they embark on this exciting journey, we are confident that they will make meaningful contributions to the engineering community and society at large.
Please join us in congratulating Ir. Dr. Ahmad Syahrin Idris, Dr. Azam Ahmad Bakir, Dr. Grace Chai, and Dr. Heng Wei Wei on this outstanding achievement. We wish them continued success in their endeavors to innovate and inspire.
Congratulations!
