Nour Shaker
Achievements

The University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM) is proud to celebrate the achievement of Nour Shaker, a Year 1 student in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering, who successfully completed the prestigious Space Systems Training Programme with the Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) in Cairo from 27–31 July 2025.

This intensive programme, designed for aspiring space engineers, offered participants practical, hands-on exposure to the complete cycle of satellite development. Over the course of five days, Nour trained across all major subsystems, including power, communications, thermal control, attitude and orbit control (ADCS), structure, and the onboard computer (OBC). This comprehensive approach provided him with valuable insights into the technical complexities that underpin space systems engineering.

Participants were trained using industry-grade engineering tools widely employed in the space sector. Nour worked extensively with MATLAB to simulate satellite motion and with CDP4-COMET, a collaborative engineering platform built on the European Space Agency’s Concurrent Design methodology.

As part of the programme’s final challenge, Nour and his team developed a complete satellite design using these tools. Their efforts were rewarded with an impressive 2nd-place finish in the national-level competition, a remarkable achievement that highlights his technical ability and problem-solving skills at an early stage in his engineering journey.

A highlight of the training programme was the opportunity to tour EgSA’s state-of-the-art laboratories and satellite integration facilities. During the visit, Nour gained first-hand exposure to the rigorous testing phases that satellites undergo before launch, from ADCS calibration to subsystem verification and full-system integration. This unique experience provided him with a practical understanding of how theory translates into real-world applications in the aerospace industry.

Nour’s successful completion of the programme and his recognition in the design challenge demonstrate not only his personal talent and determination but also the calibre of engineering students nurtured at UoSM. His achievement reflects UoSM’s commitment to preparing students to contribute meaningfully to the global aerospace and space industries.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Nour for this outstanding accomplishment. He represents the next generation of aeronautics talent, showcasing the skills, curiosity, and dedication that will shape the future of space exploration.
