Dr. Gooi Wen Pin

Dr. Gooi Wen Pin received his Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical-Mechatronics) with First Class Honours from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and was awarded the Dean’s Award in 2020. During his undergraduate studies, he was an active member of the UTM Robocon team, where he took charge of electronic circuit design and fabrication. He and his team participated in the ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest (ABU Robocon) and won the 1st runner-up in Tokyo, Japan (2017) and was awarded the Best Idea Award in Ninh Binh, Vietnam (2018).

He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from UTM in 2024, where his research focused on developing a dual-plane on-chip electrical capacitance tomography sensor for cellular imaging. Prototypes of the on-chip capacitance tomography sensors and modular capacitance measurement data acquisition system were developed in the Ph.D. project.

Following the completion of his Ph.D., Dr. Gooi joined the Wireless Communication Center at UTM as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant. His research in this role involves incorporating wireless communication technology into drone systems. He is also a reviewer for the Measurement Science and Technology journal published by IOP Publishing. His current research interests include lab-on-chip electrical tomography, biomedical sensor, soft robotics and the application of machine learning for sensor data. He is a member of the Smart Manufacturing and Systems Research Group (SMSRG) at the University of Southampton Malaysia.
