On 13 September 2024, the University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM) took a significant step forward in aerospace and aircraft engineering by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Aero Malaysia Engineering Centre (AMEC). This new partnership promises to foster collaboration in various key areas, including knowledge sharing, training, public outreach, and technical support in aerospace engineering, aircraft maintenance, and spaceflight technology.
The MoU, facilitated by UoSM's School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, represents a strong commitment from both institutions to advance aerospace education and create new opportunities for students, engineers, and technicians. The collaboration is expected to not only enhance the academic and professional development of UoSM’s students but also address the growing demands of the aerospace sector in both local and regional markets.
The agreement was officially signed by Ir. Dr. Pieter Pottas, Chief Operating Officer of UoSM, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Adrian Tan, Enterprise Lead of UoSM, alongside Mohd. Syarman bin Sulaiman, Chief Executive Officer of AMEC, and Muhd. Qamarul Audi bin Amran, Chief Operating Officer of AMEC. Their leadership will guide the strategic direction of this partnership, ensuring its long-term impact on the aerospace industry.
Special recognition was given to the efforts of Asst. Prof. Karim Ashari (UoSM) and Ms. Jasmin Jaafar (AMEC's Head of Business Development), whose exceptional coordination was instrumental in making this collaboration possible.
The MoU signing took place at the prestigious Selangor Aviation Show 2024, an event that attracted over 50 industry players from the aviation sector. The show highlighted the vibrant potential of Malaysia’s aviation industry, reinforcing the significance of partnerships like this in driving innovation and growth.
With this collaboration, UoSM and AMEC are poised to shape the future of aerospace engineering and aircraft maintenance, opening new doors for aspiring engineers and solidifying Malaysia's position in the global aerospace landscape.
