The University of Southampton Malaysia proudly celebrates the success of Ken Yeen Lee, a third-year PhD student, for his impressive achievements at the prestigious International Conference on Sustainable Energy, Infrastructure, and Environment (ICSEIE 2024). Hosted by Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UniTEN) from 14-15 October 2024 at Le Méridien, Putrajaya, the conference brought together leading researchers and experts in the field of sustainable energy, and Ken's contributions stood out among the rest.
Ken presented his research paper titled "Experimental Investigation into Solidity of Straight Bladed VAWT (Vertical Axis Wind Turbine)," under the guidance of his supervisors Dr. Kok Hoe Wong, Professor Jo-Han Ng, and Professor Andrew Cruden. His work delves into improving the efficiency of vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) by studying blade solidity—an essential factor in the performance of wind turbines. The clarity and depth of his presentation not only captured the audience's attention but also garnered significant academic interest.
The significance of Ken’s work was further highlighted by the presence of distinguished figures in the conference, including Professor Mohd Zamri Yusoff, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research & Innovation at UniTEN, and Professor Ir. Tiong Sieh Kiong, Chair of ICSEIE 2024, both of whom attended Ken’s session. His ability to simplify complex engineering concepts while maintaining scientific rigor earned him the prestigious "Best Presenter" award. In addition, his research paper was honored with the "Best Paper" award, a testament to the quality and relevance of his research in advancing renewable energy technologies.
Ken’s work in the field of renewable energy extends beyond his conference paper. His PhD thesis, titled "Investigation of Variable Solidity VAWT," focuses on the potential for further innovations in wind turbine technology, particularly in the optimisation of blade design to maximise efficiency. This research, which pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in the realm of sustainable energy, holds significant promise for the future of renewable energy solutions.
The University of Southampton Malaysia congratulates Ken on his remarkable achievements and looks forward to seeing his continued contributions to the field of sustainable energy. Ken’s accomplishments serve as an inspiration to his peers and underscore the importance of cutting-edge research in addressing global energy challenges. As he continues his academic journey, Ken is well on his way to becoming a leader in the renewable energy sector, and we wish him continued success in his future endeavors.
Congratulations, Ken Yeen Lee, on this well-deserved recognition!
