On 2 November 2024, the University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM) took a significant step towards strengthening workforce development in Johor by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Johor Talent Development Council (JTDC). This collaboration is a government-led initiative aimed at nurturing local talent and aligning academic expertise with Johor’s strategic workforce goals.
The partnership was celebrated in a formal signing ceremony attended by leaders from both UoSM and JTDC, symbolising a shared commitment to transforming Johor’s talent landscape. Ir. Dr. Pieter Pottas, Interim CEO of UoSM, represented the university at the event and engaged in meaningful discussions with JTDC representatives. These conversations focused on innovative ways to enhance workforce capabilities, paving the way for impactful contributions that extend beyond the university to benefit the entire Johor community.
Supported by the Johor state government, this collaboration promises to open doors for future initiatives that will blend academic knowledge with hands-on industry experience. By connecting UoSM’s academic strengths with JTDC’s mission, this MoU aims to develop a pipeline of highly skilled professionals ready to drive Johor’s economy forward.
"We’re excited to be part of this dynamic partnership with the Johor Talent Development Council," said Ir. Dr. Pieter Pottas. "Together, we look forward to bringing real, positive change to both our university and the broader Johor community."
As the partnership unfolds, UoSM and JTDC are optimistic about the positive impact this collaboration will have in creating more opportunities for students, enhancing industry engagement, and driving Johor’s progress toward becoming a regional hub of talent and innovation.
