Project Abstract
A gravitational water vortex power plant (GWVPP) can be installed next to the river, even if the head is low. It utilises the natural behaviour of water to form the free surface water vortex for energy extraction. GWVPP is highly recommended to be used in rural areas which are isolated from the electricity distribution grid.
The performance of GWVPP is determined by two major design factors: the basin and the turbine blades. The performance study of GWVPP can be done experimentally or computationally by varying the design of either the basin or the blade, or both.
