The University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM) proudly extends its deepest gratitude to Mr. Julian Paul Papu and Ms. Jenny Ngoh from Intel Corporation's Design Engineering Group for their invaluable contributions during a guest lecture and career sharing session hosted by the IEEE UoSM Students Chapter on 9 December 2024.
The guest lecture, a two-hour session focusing on Design for Test (DFT), formed a vital component of the Year 2 ELEC2221 Digital Systems and Signal Processing module. This session offered students a rare opportunity to gain real-world insights into DFT, bridging the gap between classroom theories and industry applications. Impressively, this marks the third consecutive year that Mr. Julian and Ms. Jenny have dedicated their time to sharing their expertise with UoSM students, solidifying their role as key contributors to the students' academic and professional growth.
Mr. Julian Paul Papu, a Principal DFT Engineer with over 20 years of experience, is renowned for his specialisation in the implementation and manufacturability of scan technologies. His deep expertise has been instrumental in helping students grasp complex concepts in DFT. Complementing his knowledge, Ms. Jenny Ngoh, a Senior SCAN Product Development Engineer with 13 years of experience, shared her proficiency in pre-validation and post-validation Scan content, offering a holistic perspective on the DFT process.
Their combined expertise provided students with unparalleled insights, enriching their understanding of DFT while exposing them to cutting-edge industry practices. By connecting academic principles to practical applications, Mr. Julian and Ms. Jenny empowered students to appreciate the real-world relevance of their studies, inspiring them to excel in their academic and future professional pursuits.
The career-sharing session, held alongside the lecture, further broadened the scope of learning. This segment was designed to cater not only to students from electrical and electronic engineering but also to those pursuing mechanical engineering and computer science. During the session, Mr. Julian and Ms. Jenny shared their personal career journeys, discussed emerging trends in the semiconductor industry, and offered actionable advice for navigating the professional landscape. Their guidance, tailored to the diverse audience, resonated deeply with students, providing them with clarity and motivation as they embark on their career paths.
This event also served as a platform for students to engage in meaningful discussions, ask pressing questions, and network with industry leaders. The practical tips and mentorship offered by Mr. Julian and Ms. Jenny were instrumental in equipping students with the tools needed to thrive in the dynamic field of engineering and technology.
Organised in collaboration with the IEEE UoSM Students Chapter, this initiative exemplifies UoSM’s commitment to enriching students’ academic journeys and preparing them for the future. We are immensely proud to have facilitated such an impactful event and look forward to continuing to provide our students with opportunities to learn from the best in the industry.
